INDIANAPOLIS - Today, three pro-life legislative proposals authored by Indiana Third Congressional District candidate and Indiana State Senator, Liz Brown, passed the Senate Health and Provider Services Committee. Brown testified in support of the measures and voted for their passage as a member of the Committee.

Senate Bill 313, bans abortions based on disability, gender, race and other demographic factors and encourages perinatal hospice care. Brown authored the bill along with lead author, Sen. Travis Holdman (District 19), and she led the testimony today in committee. The bill passed 7-4.

Brown's Senate Bill 314, to prevent a Planned Parenthood-type harvesting and trafficking of baby body parts scandal, was amended into Senate Bill 313 by the Senate Health and Provider Services Committee. This legislation imposes felony penalties on anyone illegally selling aborted baby body parts.

The other pro-life measure authored by Brown, Senate Bill 315, encourages umbilical cord donation. Cord blood stem cells offer a more ethical alternative to embryonic stem cells. The bill passed unanimously with 11 votes.

"Today's Senate Health and Provider Services Committee hearing was the most important of the session," said Brown. "The pro-life legislation before us will save lives if signed into law. From banning discriminatory abortions to preventing a Planned Parenthood-type baby parts trafficking scandal in Indiana, we took a bold step for life. It's my honor to author legislation that will protect the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. If voters in the Third District send me to Congress, I will be ready to advocate for life-saving measures there too. The unborn deserve our unwavering protection."

Brown Statement on the Anniversary of Legalized Abortion

"Roe v. Wade Changed the Heart and Soul of Our Country"

FORT WAYNE, IND. - Indiana Third Congressional District candidate and Indiana State Senator, Liz Brown, released the following statement ahead of Friday, Jan. 22nd's, 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling, Roe v. Wade, that legalized abortion:

"In 1973, activist judges on the Supreme Court made abortions legal up to the moment of birth and for any reason at all. This ruling changed the heart and soul of our country. Two hundred years prior, our founders proclaimed our right to life in the Declaration of Independence. But that right was erased for the unborn by an activist Supreme Court.

"Instead of simply accepting murder on demand, pro-life advocates, myself included, have been fighting this atrocity. Our tireless efforts over these past 43 years are showing a reduced abortion rate, women reached by pregnancy resource centers, engaged youth and legislative advancements. These victories advance our cause, help women and give more babies birthdays, but much work remains. We are committed to doubling-down on our efforts to protect life and end abortion.

"I am running for Congress because I am ready to take my pro-life passion to Washington. Our pro-life congressman, Marlin Stutzman, must be replaced by an advocate willing to stand and fight for the babies. I will be that advocate. We cannot and will not wait another 43 years and 58 million deaths before we end abortion."

INDIANAPOLIS - Today, Indiana State Senator Liz Brown filed the necessary paperwork to run for Indiana's Third Congressional District with Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson. Brown's name will appear on the May 3 primary ballot.

"Washington, D.C. is broken," shared Brown. "We need good people in Congress, now more than ever, who are not afraid to speak out and affirm our Constitutional values. We need conservatives willing to fight for economic freedom and stop the out of control spending. We need to repeal the disaster that is Obamacare. We need to retake our role as a leader on the foreign policy stage. And we need to strengthen the family, recommit to protecting religious liberty and protect the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. I am ready to bring a new type of leadership to Washington."

Wish Liz a Happy Birthday!

A message from Dr. Steve Brown:

January 14th is one of my favorite days of the year. Today is Liz's birthday! I can't imagine my life without her. We met as undergrads at Notre Dame and we now have 33 years of marriage under our belt and we've been blessed with seven kids.

Throughout the years, I've watched Liz rise to every occasion and balance all her responsibilities with grace. From passing the bar exam in three states to raising seven children, Liz has never been intimidated by what's before her. She's taken on countless volunteer roles in the community and at our church. She served Fort Wayne with tenacity and strength while on City Council and she continues to fight for common sense solutions at the Statehouse.

Today she is working tirelessly as she talks to Indiana's Third Congressional District voters. I know she will offer a new type of leadership in D.C. for us. I've always been able to count on Liz and you can too.

I hope you'll join me today in wishing Liz a "Happy Birthday." Email me or leave your wishes over on Liz's Facebook page and she'll get the message.

And if you believe Liz is the best person to represent us in D.C., please consider making a donation today as an extra way to say, "Happy Birthday." Your encouragement, prayers and donations mean so much to Liz.

Brown: Eight Years of Barack Obama Have Brought Us Eight Years of Failed Leadership

"It's time for new leadership in Washington, D.C. in order to get our country back on track"

WASHINGTON - Indiana Third Congressional District candidate and Indiana State Senator, Liz Brown, issued the following response to President Barack Obama's final State of the Union address:

"Eight years of Barack Obama have brought us eight years of failed leadership, and the American people have suffered as a result. The President would like us to believe, as he attempted to present in his final State of the Union, that he is leaving America in a better position than when he took office. He wants to focus on his pet projects of gun control, climate change and closing Guantanamo Bay.

"Unfortunately for the President and his Democratic Party, Americans are keenly aware of the real State of the Union. Millions remain out of work or underemployed. The national debt has nearly doubled, with future generations footing the bill. Obamacare has been a disaster. Our top status on the foreign policy stage has been diminished. And Obama continues to send our tax dollars to his friends in the abortion industry, despite Planned Parenthood's involvement in the harvesting and trafficking of baby parts.

"It's time for new leadership in Washington, D.C. in order to get our country back on track. I am ready to head to Washington and offer a desperately-needed new type of leadership. I won't be bound by special interests. Rather, I will fight every day for the good people of Indiana's Third Congressional District. I will advocate tirelessly for conservative principles that shrink the size of government and give control back to the people."

Brown Statement on Pence’s Suspension of Refugee Settlement

“The safety and security of America’s citizens is our top priority”

FORT WAYNE, IND – Indiana Third Congressional District candidate and Indiana State Senator, Liz Brown, offered the following statement on Ind. Gov. Mike Pence’s decision this week to suspend the refugee settlement program:

“The safety and security of America’s citizens is our top priority. Gov. Pence’s decision to suspend the refugee settlement in Indiana until serious security concerns are addressed is prudent. Our federal government needs to offer infallible assurances that anyone seeking refugee status has no terrorist ties and no intent to harm American citizens.

“The Paris attacks demonstrate that ISIS is determined to take lives and disrupt Western civilization. ISIS has grown under President Obama’s watch and clearly is not contained. We need leaders in Washington who are ready to stand up to these perpetrators of evil.”

Brown Pledges to Oppose Tax Increases

Brown Signs Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge

FORT WAYNE, IND – State Senator and congressional candidate for Indiana’s Third Congressional District, Liz Brown, has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform.

The pledge reads: “I, Liz Brown, pledge to the taxpayers of the state of Indiana, and to the American people that I will: One, oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses; and Two, oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollars for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

“I want to congratulate Senator Brown for signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Until you take tax increases firmly off the table, real and lasting spending restraint is impossible,” said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. “The American people are tired of the tax-and-spend policies coming from Washington and they are looking for solutions that create jobs, cut government spending, and get the economy going again. Signing the Pledge is the first step in that process.”

“Washington has a spending problem and new taxes aren’t the solution to the mess D.C. politicians have created,” said Brown. “Lower taxes provide an incentive to employers to create more jobs, thus boosting our economy and strengthening our communities. We need new leaders in Washington who understand that more spending and higher taxes are only going to hurt our nation. I signed Americans for Tax Reform’s pledge on the very day that they asked me to because I’m ready to go to Washington and fight for lower taxes.”

Americans for Tax Reform opposes all tax increases as a matter of principle. Americans for Tax Reform was founded in 1985 by Grover Norquist at the request of President Reagan. The flagship project of Americans for Tax Reform is the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, a written promise by legislators and candidates for office that commits them to oppose any effort to increase income taxes on individuals and businesses.

Brown Statement on Boehner’s Resignation

FORT WAYNE, IND – State Senator and congressional candidate for Indiana’s Third Congressional District, Liz Brown, released the following statement on Speaker John Boehner’s resignation announcement:

“Speaker Boehner’s resignation decision clears the way for new, conservative leadership to step up in the U.S. House of Representatives. Our lawmakers who truly care about the Constitution need to seize this opportunity and elect a speaker who will fight for the unborn, defund Planned Parenthood, repeal Obamacare, return us to our Constitutional principles of limited government and restore states’ rights.

“When I am elected to Congress, I will fight for Constitutional conservative leadership that will listen to the American people. I am running for Congress to work for the people of this district, not to make a career of it. I’m ready to go to Washington to be your voice for conservative values. It’s past time that Washington has new leadership.”
