Brown Statement on Defunding Planned Parenthood

“Planned Parenthood Doesn’t Deserve a Dime of Our Hard-earned Money”

WASHINGTON. – State Senator and congressional candidate for Indiana’s Third Congressional District, Liz Brown, released the following statement on Congress’s effort to defund Planned Parenthood:

“Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood of taxpayer funds for one year while it investigates the Planned Parenthood baby parts harvesting scandal. If I were in Congress today, I would have proudly supported this standalone measure to defund America’s largest abortion business. However, given veto threats from the White House, I believe Congress must act with additional courage to defund Planned Parenthood.

“Congress has an opportunity to strip Planned Parenthood of millions of taxpayer funds in a must-pass spending bill before the end of the month. I urge Congress to send President Obama a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood and redirects the funds to abortion-free health organizations for women.

“It is time for Congress to stand on principle. If we cannot stand for the weakest among us, even as we watch these horrific videos that detail how Planned Parenthood crushes a baby’s body to harvest an organ, then what can we stand for? Every day Planned Parenthood stops the beating hearts of nearly 900 unborn boys and girls. Congress must stop giving Planned Parenthood its blessing by funding the abortion business to the tune of a half a billion dollars. Planned Parenthood doesn’t deserve a dime of our hard-earned money.”

Brown Signs Obamacare Repeal Pledge

FORT WAYNE, IND. – Today, Independent Women’s Voice announced that State Senator Liz Brown (R-IN) has signed the Obamacare Repeal Pledge. She is a candidate for Congress in Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District.

“State Sen. Liz Brown’s signature on the Pledge is a clear demonstration of her commitment to the full and complete repeal of Obamacare, and to end the harm that it is inflicting upon American families,” said Heather Higgins, President and CEO of Independent Women’s Voice.

“Sen. Brown understands that Obamacare is hiking insurance premiums, diminishing quality of care, and reducing our choice and control in health care decisions,” added Higgins. “She understands that Obamacare means bigger government and less freedom. For these reasons, and many more, it must be repealed.”

“Washington has failed to enact healthcare reform that truly helps,” added Sen. Brown. “Obamacare has been a disaster and it’s breaking the backs of the middle class. I believe we must end Obamacare and replace it with a model of health care that guarantees the patient doctor relationship and restores free market principles in our nation’s healthcare systems.”

“The Repeal Pledge was designed as a litmus test to help the American public understand which candidates and office holders are serious about repeal, versus those who claim to be but won’t actually take action,” continued Higgins. “With this commitment, Sen. Brown passes that test.”

Brown Supports Protests of Planned Parenthood

More than 300 Protests Are Occurring Nationwide in Response to Planned Parenthood Scandal

FORT WAYNE, IND. – Today, thousands of Americans are gathering at more than 300 Planned Parenthood locations to peacefully protest the business’s participation in the harvesting and sale of aborted babies’ bodies. Indiana State Senator and congressional candidate, Liz Brown, released the following statement:

“I’m grateful for the Center for Medical Progress and for the countless Americans working to expose Planned Parenthood for what it really is. Planned Parenthood is a business and its business is abortion. They care more about profiting from the organs of aborted babies that they carefully preserve for sale to research companies than they do about the women they are supposed to serve or treating the aborted babies’ bodies with dignity.

“This spring, the Indiana General Assembly passed my bill establishing respectful rules for disposing of aborted remains. Now Indiana abortion facilities like Planned Parenthood must allow women to at least bury their dead babies with dignity, if they so choose. Aborted babies are not garbage and they are not an additional source of revenue for abortion businesses. This bill is a small step in the effort to recognize the humanity of the unborn and end abortion.

“Today thousands of Americans are protesting outside of Planned Parenthood facilities in more than 300 cities. I join their calls to expose, defund and investigate Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood’s horrific practice of dismembering babies for profit has to stop.”

The protests are organized by more than 50 pro-life groups. Of the more than 300 protests, eight are occurring in Indiana. More information is available at www.protestpp.com.

Liz Brown Pledges to ‘Reject the Debt’

Brown joins nonpartisan Coalition that includes Rep. Steve Chabot (OH-01), Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) and Rep. Mark Sanford (SC-1)

FORT WAYNE, IND. – State Senator Liz Brown, seeking to fill Representative Marlin Stutzman’s seat in Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District, has officially signed the Coalition to Reduce Spending’s pledge to reduce spending. The pledge stipulates that Brown will not vote for any spending without offsets elsewhere in the budget and will vote only for budgets with a path to balance. Stutzman, himself a longtime advocate of cutting spending and debt, is running for U.S. Senate.

Brown joins hundreds of candidates and elected officials from across the country. Elected signers include Rep. Steve Chabot (OH-01), Sen. Ted Cruz (TX), Rep. Doug Collins (GA-9), and Rep. Mark Sanford (SC-1).

On signing, Brown released the following statement:

“Before the only legacy that we can leave our children is an I.O.U., we need to stop the reckless federal spending. I will take Indiana’s model of fiscal conservatism to Washington and fight for the taxpayer.”

Jonathan Bydlak, president of the Coalition to Reduce Spending, released the following statement in response to the news:

“Countless special interests stand in opposition to reduced federal spending. In this environment, it’s no surprise that election promises can be as temporary as the races that produce them. For a candidate to put a commitment like this one on paper requires commitment that goes above and beyond the average.”

“We’re thrilled Senator Brown has done just that,” he added, “and citizens in Indiana should be thrilled as well.”

As the 2016 elections draw closer, the Coalition says it has been in touch with the other candidates in the race and also plans to reach out to every elected official and candidate for office with the opportunity to go on the record with regard to spending.

More information, including the full text of the pledge, can be found online at http://www.ReduceSpending.org/reject-the-debt.

FORT WAYNE, IND. – Today, Indiana District 15 State Senator and Congressional candidate, Liz Brown, spoke at the Fort Wayne Women Betrayed Rally. The rally, organized in response to the undercover video exposing Planned Parenthood’s practices, called for defunding the investigating the organization.

In remarks prepared for delivery, Brown said:

“Planned Parenthood is a business and its business is abortion. They abort more than 170 babies for every baby they refer to adoption. Planned Parenthood’s claim of providing women access to health care is a farce; it is about providing a profitable service, and now they have finally been exposed. Providing an abortion, carefully cutting up a baby in order to preserve its organs for research, is not giving women access to health care. We need to continue to press all our elected officials in Washington, D.C. to stop funding this profit center of death.”

Brown has been a longtime advocate for the unborn and their mothers. Just this spring she sponsored legislation that establishes rules for disposing of fetal remains that brings dignity to the aborted baby, the women and the abortion staff involved. Emergency rules in her legislation took effect on July 1.

Brown Statement on Supreme Court Marriage Decision

FORT WAYNE, IND. – Liz Brown, Indiana State Senator for District 15 and candidate for U.S. Congress, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on marriage:

“More than 40 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court made a sweeping ruling, deeming that pre-born children are unworthy of protection. Today the Supreme Court redefined marriage, but nine un-elected judges can’t redefine what we know as marriage. As I have advocated for the pre-born despite the Supreme Court’s position, I will continue to advocate for one-man, one-woman marriage and traditional families.”
